Community Orchard
Submitted by Carolyn Reily on Wed, 2nd Dec 2009In our village in rural Warwickshire there is a peice of derelict land that could be used for a Community Orchard. It could be planted with fruit trees as a community activity, bringing all age groups together. The fruit could then be shared amongst residents of the village including families, the local school, young people and the elderly. The project would allow the more elderly residents to pass on their knowledge of gardening and cooking (we could all make jam!) and help the younger people to understand the benefits of locally produced fresh food.
Village Pantomime/Musical Production
Submitted by Geoff Marsh on Wed, 2nd Dec 2009The project aims to provide some basic theatrical equipment - lighting, staging, costumes - to allow a group of villagers of all ages to come together to stage a pantomime or musical in the local Church Hall. Several groups have expressed interest including the Youth Club and local choir. A number of possible alternative productions have been identified but some basic equipment will have to be funded to get the project off the ground.
Community fruit and vegetable production
Submitted by Geoff Marsh on Wed, 2nd Dec 2009Ryton-on-Dunsmore Parish Council is in the process of acquiring an area of land adjacent to the church for development as a Community Graveyard. For the medium future there will be considerably more land than is required. The proposal therefore is to develop a portion of this land as a Community Market Garden using volunteers to prepare the area and grow fruit and vegetables. Initial funds would be required for site preparation and horticultural provisions. It is anticipated that once established, local sale of produce would cover most of the operating costs.
Painting the Subway under the A45 in Ryton-on-Dunsmore
Submitted by Geoff Marsh on Wed, 2nd Dec 2009The project would involve engaging the local Youth Club to design and apply a mural on the walls of the subway under theA45 which links the two halves of the village. This should create a pleasant visual effect which, being owned by the young people of the village will be less vulnerable to graffiti and other damage. The cost would be for paint and painting materials.
